Aspark SP600: World's Fastest Electric Car Breaks Records

Outpacing Rimac at 275 MPH

Aspark SP600, the latest electric hypercar, has officially become the world's fastest electric vehicle, surpassing the record set by Rimac Nevera.

In a race to conquer speed, Aspark SP600 triumphed over Rimac Nevera's previous record. The hypercar reached a top speed of 272.5 mph (438.7 km/h) at the Papenburg test track, a remarkable 16.6 mph (26.7 km/h) faster than its Croatian rival.

The impressive feat was achieved on a 1.1-mile (1.8 km) straight at the Papenburg proving ground in Germany. Professional racecar driver Marc Basseng, a 24h Nurburgring winner, took the wheel. The car's speed was recorded and verified by Racelogic V-Box equipment.

Production-Concept Prototype Sets Record

Aspark SP600 is described as a "production-concept prototype" and has not yet been fully unveiled. Based on early images, it appears to be an evolution of the Aspark Owl, featuring aerodynamic enhancements for maximum velocity.

It remains uncertain whether the company has upgraded the Owl's quad-motor electric powertrain, which produced 2,012 horsepower. Production numbers and pricing for the Aspark SP600 have not yet been revealed.

Specialized Tires for Record-Breaking Speed

To achieve its record-breaking speed, Aspark partnered with Bridgestone to develop a custom tire based on the Potenza Race series. These tires are engineered to withstand speeds exceeding 260 mph (420 km/h) while meeting the specific weight and handling requirements of the Aspark SP600.

Italian Roots and Future Plans

Manifattura Automobili Torino (M.A.T.) is responsible for the development and production of Aspark's electric hypercars in Italy. In addition to its partnership with Bridgestone, M.A.T. has a legacy of producing distinctive sports cars such as the New Stratos, Glickenhaus SCG003, and Apollo IE.

"Our journey developing the Owl hypercar spanned almost 10 years," said Aspark CEO Masanori Yoshida. "Our goal was to create the world's fastest-accelerating car, and today, we've added the world record for top speed."

M.A.T. and Aspark are expected to release further details about the SP600, including technical specifications, in the near future. The production version of the car will likely shed its racing livery and owl-eye headlights featured on the record-setting prototype.

Summary

Aspark SP600 has redefined the boundaries of electric vehicle speed, becoming the world's fastest with a top speed of 272.5 mph (438.7 km/h). Developed in Italy by M.A.T., the hypercar outpaced Rimac Nevera in an impressive display of performance. While the production-concept prototype has yet to be fully revealed, its sleek design and custom Bridgestone tires hint at its exceptional capabilities. With further details to be announced in the future, Aspark SP600 promises to be a formidable contender in the electric hypercar arena.
